Miguel...celebrating a goal.

A football player Jesús de Miguel has died following a heavy collision with a goalkeeper during a Spanish second division league game between his club Tenerife and Andorra on Monday.
Miguel was challenging for the ball in a midfield tussle when he collided with onrushing Andorra keeper Jesus Owono during the final minutes of the game played at the Estadio Heliodoro Rodríguez López. He was hit in the chest and collapsed to the ground motionless.
The match referee handed Owono a straight red card before ending the match which tied at 2-2 in the 108th minute.
Miguel, 30, was given emergency first aide on the pitch before being rushed to the University Hospital of Nuestra Señora de Candelaria in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. However, his neurological condition worsened overnight, and he passed away at 8:00 a.m. local time on Tuesday.

Jesus Owono clatters into Miguel yards outside his goal area.

“From CD Tenerife, we announce the tragic passing, this Tuesday, November 3, 2026, at 8:00 am, of Jesús de Miguel Alameda,” the club said in a statement.
“There are no words of comfort; there is absolutely nothing that can lessen this overwhelming sadness. We stand with his grieving family, with his loved ones, with all of Tenerife who mourn this cruel loss today.”
Andorra, Tenerife’s opponents, said: “With broken hearts and devastated, we want to send our most sincere condolences to the family of Jesus de Miguel, to all his team-mates, friends, and to CD Tenerife.”
Former Barcelona defender Gerard Pique, who co-owns Andorra, said: “I am sorry with all my soul. Rest in peace, Jesus.”
