A Ghanaian-born migrant Samuel Sey will be deported by the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), after overstaying in the country.
Ironically, Mr. Sey a conservative Christian blogger has promoted the US crack down on immigration in his writings and videos. He was arrested on October 21 at the Colombos Ohio Airport and remains in detention.
“Sey has no pending applications and accepted voluntary departure,” a Department of Homeland Security (DHS) spokesperson told The Dispatch.
“He will remain in ICE custody until removed from the United States.”
Sey, 39, was born in Ghana and moved to Canada as a child before relocating to the United States.
Before his arrest Sey lived with his wife and three children.
“My husband Samuel Sey entered the United States legally and has been working ever since in good faith with a lawyer to obtain permanent legal status. Our family is trying to understand what went wrong in the process,” his wife, Annie, wrote in a statement.
Sey has repeatedly called himself “an immigrant who supports ICE,” preaching against illegal immigration and calling it a “sin.”
In one post, he said that anti-ICE protesters are “influenced by Satan.” When Minnesota mother Renee Good was shot and killed in her car in January, Sey echoed claims that she was attempting to ram agents with her car, despite video evidence suggesting otherwise.
“The woman would still be alive if she didn’t try to run the ICE agent over. You can be saddened by her death and admit that it was self-defense,” he wrote.
