Nigerian sports legends Mutiu Adepoju and Falilat Ogunkoya are expected to grace the 2026 Olojo Festival Race billed for Ile-Ife Osun State September 24.
Adepoju a former Super Eagles and Flying Eagles midfield maestro revealed his interest in the event following the attraction it brings to the festival through sports. Also, Ogunkoya Nigerian Olympic legend and African record holder in the women 400m noted that it was novel introducing the 5km race into the Olojo Festival and she was looking forward to being part of it this year.
Other dignitaries who have also signed up include the Sookos and High Chiefs of Ile-Ife who are pleased with the introduction of the race into the Olojo Festival.
Already national long distance elite runners are warming up for the event, which has a N1m prize money for both male and female categories.
The race has now become part of the Olojo Festival promoting the cultural heritage of the Kingdom of Ile-Ife and it has been on for centuries. Championed by former Nigeria’s 100m hurdles great Taiwo Aladefa, the race aims to incorporate youth awareness and involvement, promote fitness and friendship.
