A police inspector seconded to the home of Imo State commissioner for trade and investment Rex Anunobi has been found brutally murdered and his service rifle and other belongings stolen by his killers.
According to reports Inspector Henry Effiong was found dead with his legs and hands tied and a deep wound inflicted with a machete on his head at the commissioner’s residence located at No. 1 Sokom Villa Area E, New Owerri, on Monday, September 14, 2026.
The Imo State police said the commissioner’s housekeeper found the body of the slain inspector and raised an alarm. Police investigations so far indicate that a security guard identified as Genesis from Taraba State is the prime suspect, he is believed that he conspired with unknown persons who gain entrance into the compound to commit the crime.
Genesis is currently on the run with his mobile phone switched off.
The police said an empty magazine and a walkie-talkie were recovered from the scene and handed over to the Area Commander, Operations (AC Ops), for further investigation.
