A butcher identified as Sodiq Ibrahim has allegedly used a machete to cut down his 25-year-old wife at a home where they were being reconciled after a marital dispute in Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State.
Ibrahim, who is now on the run after committing the murder on Wednesday, was said to have grabbed the machete and inflicted the fatal blows after his wife Kehinde Onizeokaraga seemed not to be willing to agree to reconciliation terms.
According to Lawrence Yusuf, a cousin of the deceased woman, she had moved out of her husband’s house due to irreconcilable differences and was preparing to leave Ado Ekiti when she was summoned to a family friend’s home for the reconciliation meeting.
“While Kehinde was preparing to leave Ado Ekiti, she was invited to the residence of her father’s friend, who they said wanted to see her,” Yussuf narrated.
“Kehinde went to the residence on Wednesday morning, unaware that her husband would also be present.
“An attempt to resolve the couple’s marital disagreement subsequently degenerated into the fatal attack.
“We want Sadiq (Ibrahim) to be found and arrested. We want justice for Kehinde. Her parents are in pain and my family is in serious agony. She didn’t deserve this.”
Ekiti State Command spokesperson Sunday Abutu, confirmed the incident, adding, “The Commissioner of Police, Michael Falade, has ordered a thorough investigation into the matter to ensure that the perpetrator is apprehended and brought to justice.”
