George Desmond Kamurasi a Ugandan born goalkeeper playing for a non-league London club SE Dons is faced with the choice of enjoying his football or returning home to be crowned the King of Tooro people in his native country.
“Big George” as he is fondly called was selected to replace his late cousin King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV who died at 36 recently. However, Big George, who is also 36, is slow to give a thought about returning home to be King.
He is married with a son and well settled in London and seems to have found his peace playing football after spending some time in jail and going through a rough patch in life having lost his mother at just 14.
“I came out; went into football and put myself out there. I chased it and won things,” he said in a recent interview.
“Things that were not possible. I wanted it more than anything else,” he said.
Big G is said to be passionate about football and helping his team to succeed. As the captain of SE Dons, he makes big saves, gives pep talks to the team and it is hard to walk away from all that especially when the club has extended his contract for the rest of the season.
