Social activist Martins Otse, a.k.a VeryDarkMan, has lashed out at top Nigerian lawyer Femi Falani SAN for querying the invitation sent to him by the Nigerian Bar Association to speak at its Port Harcourt annual conference.
Falana during an interview had argued that the NBA conference is meant for individuals who can impact knowledge on legal practitioners on relevant topics.
“In those days, the NBA brought Individuals who had paid their dues, who had who were coming to engage lawyers intellectually. We wanted to learn from them and so none of our conferences was a circus show in the past, you know,” Falana told Channels TV
“But to just go and bring somebody from nowhere to come and entertain you, there are problems with that. And I think that was the problem associated with that particular lecturer, I mean an individual.”
Speaking Friday on a video posted on his Facebook page, VDM said Falana was practicing clasism by questioning his competence to speak at the NBA Conference.
“I listened to Femi Falana, and I’m not going to lie to you, I was so disappointed in the great Femi Falana. I was really, really disappointed,” VDM said.
“But then again, after I spoke, I understood why a lot of them were upset. Femi Falana gave me the answer as to why a lot of these people seem to be very upset. He said, ‘You just went to bring somebody from nowhere.’ And that is the problem.
“Their problem is that the son of a nobody was invited. That is simply what has been going on in the media, and Femi Falana just made it clear to me.”
“The problem these people have is that the son of a nobody was invited to come and speak where elites are seated,” he said.
He added that Falana’s submission to his speaking on insecurity troubled him more.
“Lately in the last few years, I have been present where all these things have happened. I have seen things that a lot of security experts have not seen. This is not about books. It’s not about books. It’s about experience,” he said.
