Suspected rival gang members engaged each other in a shootout near the palace of Osogbo monarch Oba Jimoh Oyetunji who was hosting Osun State governor Ademola Adeleke.
Mr. Adeleke had gone to the palace to present his INEC certificate of clearance and celebrate with the monarch when the incident occurred.
According to reports the shooting lasted for about 15 minutes. Panic spread around the area as residents and business owners ran for cover.
Osun State commissioner for information and public enlightenment Kolapo Alimi, stated that the shooting was between rival cultist groups.
Also, Afrobeats star David Adeleke a.k.a Davido writing on his X account stated: “It was a fight outside the palace that had nothing to do with us! The people love his excellency!”
There were reporters in social media governor Adeleke had been ambushed by hoodlums.
Ahead of the Osun State elections last Saturday violence attack between thugs hired by politicians unleashed a state of terror around Osogbo, about 18 people were killed.
Governor Adeleke announced earlier in the day that a N500m endowment had been set up to help the families of the victims.
