Hundreds of women took to the streets Tuesday to protest the killing of 24 persons in Bin-Per community in Kombun District of Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State.
Gunmen invaded the Bin-Per community between 12.00am and 1.00am Tuesday morning leaving a trail of devastation. This is coming a week after three persons were killed in a clash between residents and Fulani settlers.
“Our village came under attack last night and in the early hours of today, Tuesday. Heavily armed persons were moving from house to house, opening the doors of people who were sleeping and slaughtering them,” said a community resident Daniel Musa.
“As of this morning, we have confirmed over 20 deaths, while several others sustained serious injuries and some people are still missing.”
The victims of the latest attack were given a mass burial Tuesday, while those injured continue to receive treatment at various medical facilities.
The women called on the government to come to their aid and stop the endless violence that continues to ravage their communities. One of the protesters, Mrs Ladi Joshua, said the women were devastated by the loss of their husbands, children, relatives and other members of the community.
Hon. Jude Eli Dakur who is the African Democratic Congress (ADC) secretary in Plateau State, said the destruction of lives, property and farmlands is becoming unbearable.
He condemned the killing of innocent citizens who are sleeping in homes adding that this has stop. He urged the security agencies to immediately mobilise and go after the perpetrators of the attack, stressing that those responsible must be identified, arrested and brought to justice.
