Portuguese star player Cristiano Ronaldo has hinted that this would be his last season in football.
This is coming after leading his country to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, his sixth tournament and announcing after Portugal was eliminated in the round of 16, he wouldn’t come back for a seventh. His contract with Saudi Club Al Naser ends in 2027.
Speaking in an interview with Vogue Ronaldo said: “This is probably my last year of football, and I want to leave a spectacular legacy.
“And also have more fun, travel more, watch and play padel, which I really like, and continue enjoying what I have achieved. What we have achieved. After all, they have been 25 years of great sacrifice.”
He noted that he has already made his retirement plans.
“I already have my whole future planned out. I have so many things to keep me busy that it’s hard to single out just one. Since football can leave a big void, you have to fill your time in different ways, not just one,” added Ronaldo who last week got married to his long time girlfriend Georgina.
Apart from the World Cup title, Ronaldo has won every other football honour as an individual and team.
He has won five Ballons d’Or, five Champions League titles, league titles in England, Spain and Italy, and the European Championship and Nations League with Portugal.
He is also Real Madrid’s all-time leading scorer and is the top goalscorer in men’s international football history, having scored 146 goals for Portugal.
Ronaldo...hints at retirement.
