Fanny Amun a former coach of the Flying Eagles and secretary general of the Nigeria Football Federation will lead others including former striker Desire Oparanozie to investigate why Nigeria’s Super Falcons failed to fly at the Women Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
The Super Falcons joined the Super Eagles, Flying Eagles, Golden Eaglets in missing tickets to the FIFA World Cup categories after they were beaten 2-1 by South Africa on Thursday. Overwhelmed by the outrage from Nigerian fans calling for the sack of the NFF board, the nation’s football ruling constituted the Fanny Amum committee to look into the “fumbling and wobbling” nature of the national teams.
For the first time the Super Falcons failed to play in the semi-final of the WAFCON which could have guaranteed them a ticket to the Women World Cup next year in Brazil. They were beaten by Cameroon 1-0. This loss pushed them to try again with other quarter-final losers for the intercontinental playoffs, but just like the Super Eagles South Africa became their banana peel.
“The NFF has set up a fact-finding committee to look into the unwholesome poor performances of Nigeria’s national teams with attention to the Super Falcons’ failure to pick a Women World Cup ticket,” the NFF said in a statement Friday.
Other members of the committee include Ladan Boss former Flying Eagles coach, Mutiu Adepoju, Dr Alex Mana and Mr. Nasiru Jibril is the secretary. However, there was information on when the committee will start their work or when it will submit its report.
