The Federal government has given the greenlight to the deployment of 10,000 Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps operatives for the August 15 Osun governorship election.
A statement by its spokesman, Kehinde Adeleke, on Monday, noted that the commandant, Igbalawole Sotiyo, disclosed this during a strategic meeting with area commanders, divisional officers, and tactical commanders at the command headquarters in Osogbo.
Mr Sotiyo said the deployment was approved by the corps’ commandant-general, who would lead the operation. He urged personnel to remain apolitical, maintain strict neutrality, and discharge their duties with the highest level of professionalism before, during, and after the election.
He described the NSCDC as a professional, non-partisan agency responsible for protecting lives and property, critical national assets and infrastructure, as well as supporting the maintenance of peace and public order.
Meanwhile the wife of Osun State governor Mrs. Titilola Adeleke, on Monday led a group of women on a peaceful protest against alleged indiscriminate arrests and violence ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.
The protesters, comprising women from various trader and artisan groups, marched from the Osogbo-Ilobu Road towards the Osun State Police Command along the West Bypass, where they demanded a peaceful, free and fair election.
“We are demanding a free and fair election in the forthcoming poll. We want peace; let there be peace,” Adeleke said. NAN
