Cameroon Indomitable Lionesses midfielder Naomi Eto said Nigeria’s Super Falcons can have all the big names, but Sunday’s 2026 Women African Cup of Nations quarterfinal will be decided on the pitch.
Cameroon topped group D winning two of their games against Ghana and Mali, while drawing with Cape Verde and in group C Nigeria lost their opening game against Malawi before grinding out a result against Zambia and winning generously against Egypt.
However, against the Indomitable Lionesses at the Larbi Zaouli Stadium, Casablanca, it is going to be a different contest where the Super Falcons would be tested in their aim to retain the trophy and qualify for the FIFA Women World Cup.
“Nigeria is a very great nation in African Women’s Football and deserves all our respect. We know we are not the favourites and, in fact, we never really were in this competition. But we also know what we want to achieve. We have a game plan prepared by the staff and we work every day to progress, both in training and during video meetings or even in our exchanges amongst the players.
“Nigeria has great qualities, but a match is played on the pitch. One thing is certain – we will give everything on the pitch,” Eto told CAFonline.
The winner will face either hosts Morocco or South Africa in the last four.
Supe Falcons coach Justine Madugu who is worried about his shaky defence, reiterated the importance of the game to his team.
“Our objective remains picking the World Cup ticket and then going ahead to retain the trophy. Nothing has changed,” Madugu said.
