Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta is keeping mute on transfer speculations concerning Real Madrid winger Vinícius Júnior.
The Gunners have been linked with a move for the Brazilian whose contract expires in 2027 and has yet to reach an agreement with Real Madrid on a new deal. Arteta simply laughed when asked Saturday what the situation between his club and Vini Jr. was.
However, he hinted that Arsenal are still keen to sign players: “Well, we are really active, trying to improve and evolve the team. That’s clear,” he said.
“And you can just see the transfer market and our opponents. What we are doing, we won’t sit still and we are very ambitious in what we want to do.”
According to reports Real Madrid are not prepared to increase the new offer they made to Vini Jr and are ready to let him go if he refuses to accept. The player is expected to resume preseason training on Monday and Real Madrid executives expect him to make up his mind to either sign the proposed contract extension or formally seek a transfer elsewhere.
Meanwhile Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho said he was looking for to the return of Vini Jr and others who went to the World Cup.
“On Monday, Vini Jr, Brahim, and Bernardo will arrive. Little by little, until the boys who played in the World Cup semifinals and final arrive, with the final being only Cucurella.”
