Nigeria’s Super Falcons will play their last group C match of the Women African Cup of Nations against Egypt on Wednesday without defender Blessing Demehin and midfielder Jennifer Echegini.
Demehin saw red and Echegini picked up a second yellow in the match against Zambia on Saturday. The match against Egypt is important for the Super Falcons, if they hope progress to the knockout stage. Super Falcons captain Rasheedat Ajibade said the team will cope and get the required result.
“Thing can happen in football…red card or no red card we can cope,” Ajibade said.
“We have depth in our squad we have enough quality on the team, and we have to take each match as they come.”
The Super Falcons, who are the defending champions, lost their opening game against Malawi, and it was obvious the defence and midfield was ineffective in that match. Against Zambia until Demehin got the marching orders, the Super Falcons were still giving their opponents space to operate a development which cost them against Malawi.
It was one of such moves from the Zambians in the midfield that freed Barbra Banda and Demehin had no choice but to commit a foul. She had earlier escaped being book when she put her hand on Banda, but the striker made a meal out of it resulting into a VAR review.
