Former Golden Eaglets player Akinkunmi Amoo is on the run from Denmark where he is being wanted to serve a one year jail sentence for rape and sexual assault.
According to Copenhagen Police Amoo who played in the 2019 FIFA U-17 World Cup needs to serve his sentence after he was convicted in June 2023 by a Copenhagen City Court.
The player is believed to be taking refuge in Nigeria as his career hangs in the balance.
The Police said Amoo has been remanded in custody in absentia, with authorities working to secure his return to Denmark so he can begin serving his sentence.
Amoo appealed the ruling, but the Eastern High Court dismissed his appeal in 2024 after he failed to appear for the hearing, making the original verdict and sentence final.
His lawyer at the time attributed his absence to visa-related issues.
Following his 2023 conviction, FC Copenhagen transferred Amoo to Cypriot club Omonia Nicosia.
However, his contract there was terminated after the appeal was dismissed and the conviction was upheld.
The Nigerian joined Chinese club SH JD Huilong in February 2025 but became a free agent when his contract expired at the end of the year. With AllNigeriasoccer reports.
