National Sports Commission director-general Bukola Olapade has called on Nigerian athletes to compete with courage and win at the 2026 Commonwealth Games starting July 23 in Glasgow.
Hon. Olapade who was speaking to the athletes who rounded off their two weeks training camp in Aberdeen Thursday, said there was no other way for the athletes to repay the good camping conditions and motivation, but to come up with good podium performances in their respective events.
He highlighted the Federal Government’s commitment to sports development, noting that the athletes had benefited from unprecedented support under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
“The Federal Government, under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, has made an unprecedented investment in Team Nigeria by providing a world-class training environment to ensure our athletes are fully prepared to compete with the very best,” he stated.
Olopade reminded the athletes that representing Nigeria is both a privilege and a duty, He called on them to uphold the nation’s values throughout the Games.
“Wearing the Green and White is both an honour and a responsibility. I urged every athlete to remain focused, disciplined, patriotic, and scandal-free throughout the Games while giving their very best for our great nation,” he said.
“We’ve had good preparations and there is no other way to justify it but to come up with good performances.
“As you step onto the world stage, compete with courage, make Nigeria proud, and remember that President Tinubu looks forward to welcoming you home with medals and stories of success,” Olopade added.
