Former Nigeria-born Miss Universe beauty pageant runner up Chidimma Adetshina Thursday appeared in a Cape Town Court to fight her deportation from South Africa.
Adetshina who was born in South African to a Nigerian father and a Mozambique mother was arrested on June 6 following allegations she is living in the country illegally. She was released with a warning while the matter is pursued legally in court,
The Department of Home Affairs alleges that Adetshina who carries a Nigerian passport and her minor son were living in South Africa without lawful immigration status and is seeking her deportation through the courts.
Adetshina submitted an affidavit in court detailing her immigration status as she challenged the South Africa Department of Home Affairs’ quest to deport her.
According to court documents filed by immigration Adetshina entered South Africa while prohibited from doing so in September 2024.
In 2024 Adetshina contested in a beauty pageant in South Africa, but South Africans though acknowledged she born in their country, she was not South African enough to represent them in the Miss Universe pageant.
She was forced to withdraw but was given a second chance by the Silver Bird entertainment group the organisers of Miss Universe Nigeria, she went on to represent Nigeria at the Miss Universe contest in Mexico, she was a first runner up.
