Under fire chief of staff to President Bola Tinubu, Hon Femi Gbajabiamila has filed a N15billion defamation suit at High Court in Abuja against Adeniyi Adeyemi, his accuser in the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC) scandal.
Hon Gbajabiamila had warned Mr. Adeyemi of the impending lawsuit, after he claimed to have paid the former Speaker of the House of Reps N400m to facilitate his appointment as director-general of the PFIPC, an agency the government of President Tinubu declared as nonexistence even as a N1.3b budgetary allocation has been made to it in the 2026 appropriation bill.
Adeyemi however, insisted that Hon Gbajabiamila was quite aware of the existence of the agency alleging that Gbajabiamila demanded for a 48 percent kickback from the grant made available by the Federal government to the agency.
Hon. Gbajabiamila denied any involvement claiming in his suit that he has been defamed by the controversial PFIPC ‘fake’ director-general.
According to the court filings, the Hon Gbajabiamila is seeking ₦10 billion as general damages and an additional ₦5 billion as aggravated damages over the alleged defamatory statements. He is also asking the court to compel Adeyemi to issue a full retraction of the allegations and publish an unreserved apology in five national newspapers. In addition, Gbajabiamila is demanding ₦200 million as the cost of the legal action.
Mr Adeyemi who is facing impersonation and forgery charges in a Federal High Court was arrested on Tuesday after he failed to appear in court.
Femi Gbajabiamila and Adeniyi Adeyemi...who is lying?
