A tricycle operating is facing the prospect of doing some time in prison after was arrested by the Delta State Police for allegedly kidnapping a three-year-old girl he was paid to drive to school.
The suspect identified as Kelvin Ogaga, told the police that debts drove him into committing the crime he hatched with his girlfriend and another accomplice.
According to the police Ogaga agreed with the parents of the kid to be taking her to school on a month pay of N10,000. But he was only on the job for three weeks when he showed his true colour.
“I was the one taking the child to school. A friend suggested that I kidnap the child so we could collect money from the parents,” he said after being paraded by the police.
He confessed that after kidnapping the little girl; his friend whom he identified as Omo made the ransom demand of N4m and threatening to kill the child if the incident was reported to the police. However, the parents could only muster N500, 000.
Delta State Police spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, said the child was rescued safely, and that part of the ransom had been recovered. He said Ogaga was arrested following intelligence and technical resources.
Edafe said efforts were ongoing to arrest other suspects linked to the kidnapping, which occurred in Ughelli about three weeks ago.
