Human Rights activist and African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has accused the Director-General of the DSS, Tosin Ajayi, of witch-hunting female journalist Zainab Sodiq.
Miss Sodiq was accosted on July 6 by the DSS at the Murtala Mohammed Airport Lagos while getting ready to fly to Abuja. According to DSS deputy director of public relations and strategic communications Favour Dozie, Sodiq was found in possession of a drone without the mandatory authorisation End User Certificate (EUC).
She was allowed to fly to Abuja and asked to report at the DSS National Headquarters on July 8 and was subsequently detained for further interrogation.
But Sowore claimed Thursday the DSS boss had an axe to grind with Sodiq, because she always covers his activities. He alleged that the DSS turned on Sodiq because they failed to have the Federal High Court where he is standing trial on Cybercrime charges, return him to prison.
“After I spent nine days in Kuje Prison, DSS prosecutor, A.T. Kehinde, SAN, tried to have me sent back by falsely claiming I had not perfected my bail,” Sowore stated.
“When the Bail Unit confirmed that I had met the conditions, he still refused to certify my sureties as requested by the judge.
“When that scheme failed, the DSS arrested Zainab Sodiq, the journalist covering my activities.”
Sowore added that the DSS plans to arraign Sodiq
“We have been informed that the lawless DSS DG, Tosin Ajayi, now plans to charge journalist Zainab Sodiq to court for an unknown offence,” Sowore said.
“Her continued detention is essentially about the bruised ego of the DSS DG, who became angry after I exposed the DSS’s abuses and illegal detention of Zainab,” Sowore stated.
