Nigeria’s defence minister General Christopher Musa rtd has ordered Nigerian army troops to shoot bandits and terror gangs on sight, otherwise they would also be treated as the criminals they are chasing after.
General Musa disclosed the new government’s posture on insecurity in the country while on a visit to Sokoto to commission operational vehicles donated by the Sokoto State government and boost troops morale.
“Once you are deployed do not wait for any order from anybody to shoot any bandit or any terrorist.
“I want to make that very loud and clear – anybody who refuses to shoot or kill any bandit or terrorist in the name of waiting for an order, we will treat you like a bandit,” Musa said to the listening officers.
“It is important for those that will handle this equipment, these equipment cost billions of naira that could have been used for other aspects but have been dedicated to this.
“So, I want to charge you that you must maintain this equipment very well. We will come after a year to see how this equipment is doing.”
Sokoto State governor Ahmed Aliyu said the procurement was geared towards making the Sokoto safe by boosting the operational capacity of security agencies in tackling banditry, terrorism, kidnapping and other violent crimes.
