French star player Kylian Mbappe has fired back at a Paraguayan Senator Celeste Amarilla who launched racists abuse at him after he scored the winning goal that sent her country out of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
France beat Paraguay 1-0 via a 70th minute penalty taken by Mbappe in their round of 16 clash at the Philadelphia Stadium. And that got Amarilla mad especially when Mbappe refused to shake Paraguay keeper Orlando Gill.
“A colonized Cameroonian, pretending to be tough, French, resentful, nouveau riche, arrogant, and ugly. He was nervous and scared to death the whole game, like the rest of his team. They couldn’t score a single goal; they won by a hair’s breadth…,” she wrote on X social media platform.
“You should have given him the finger, Orlando Gill. I do it in the Senate and nothing happens!” she concluded, referring to Mbappé’s refusal to shake hands with the Paraguayan goalkeeper.
The government of Paraguay distanced themselves from her views.
“The Government of Paraguay reaffirms its firm commitment to the promotion of human rights, equality and respect among people, the fight against racism, xenophobia, intolerance and all manifestations of hatred or discrimination.”
But the words Mbappe fired back at the politician carried more weight.
“Madame Celeste Amarilla, you are a despicable woman and unworthy of your position. You do not represent Paraguay, a country that has exuded passion and honor throughout the entire competition,” Mbappé began his response.
“Because of her recklessness and unabashed racism, the whole world has already forgotten the journey and historic effort of her players during this World Cup, overshadowed by an incompetent woman who projects the worst possible image of her country,” he continued.
“I will never allow people like her to have the freedom to spread their hatred and racism throughout the world.”
