African legendary football star and former Liberian President George Weah said there should be no comparison between French striker Kylian Mbappe and his Spanish counterpart Lamine Yamal.
Weah who watched France beat Sweden 3-0 in the round of 32 tie joined in the debate by football enthusiasts on who is the greatest player in football presently.
Weah said there is a huge gap between Mbappe who gunning for his second World Cup title and Lamine Yamal.
“Mbappé is a phenomenon. He is truly a very strong player and an incredible goalscorer. He cannot be compared to anyone right now,” Weah who played for various clubs across Europe they include AC Milan, PSG, Man City and Chelsea, told Spanish TV channel El Chiringuito.
“Lamine Yamal is still a very young boy. It is wrong to compare him with Mbappé. Kylian is already an established phenomenon, while Lamine is just finding his way. I wish him nothing but the best, but everyone knows that Mbappé is currently at a much higher level.”
Mbappé leads the 2026 World Cup chart of goal scorers with six strikes and is competing with Lionel Messi for the Golden Boot. In the match against Sweden, he could have scored a hat-trick, but one of his shots hit the post, and another was disallowed due to offside.
