Security agents clashed with suspected bandits along the Benin-Ore expressway and successfully rescued five passengers that were kidnapped by the criminal gang.
According to reports the passengers travelling from Benin to Ibadan and Lagos respectively were taken from various vehicles at the Ogbere section of the expressway and taken into the forest on Thursday, but on Friday a combined police team from Lagos and Ogun engaged the bandits in a gun battle that last for hours in the forest where they hid themselves and their victims.
According to security sources that section of the Benin-Ore expressway has become a black spot and the incident triggered an immediate response from law enforcement agencies.
During the operation, security operatives forced the kidnappers to retreat into the bush, abandoning some of their captives in the process.
However, police authorities said efforts are ongoing to track down the fleeing suspects and ensure their arrest.
