Trouble returned to the Plateau on Sunday night when suspected terror gangs shot and killed 18 farmers and injured several others in Kawel village, Mushere District of Bokkos Local Government Area, Plateau State.
According to a Bokkos youth leader Christopher Luka the gunmen invaded the community at about 12.00am and left after satisfying their orgy of violence before security agents arrived on the scene.
“A member of the community called around 12 a.m. that gunmen attacked the community and shot over 20 people. Eighteen were confirmed dead,” Luka said.
The police neither the army have yet to comment on the incident, which is coming less than five days after the District Head of Gwande in the same LGA, Saf Samuel Alaket, was killed in an ambush along the Sha District axis bordering the Daffo community. The traditional ruler was reportedly returning from a council meeting when he ran into the attackers.
Luka described the attack as unprovoked and called on security agencies to take urgent action to prevent further escalation in the area.
