The Catholic Archdiocese of Lagos has set the stage to host multiple celebrations as the revered Anthony Cardinal Olubunmi Okogie turns 90 years on June 16.
According to the Catholic Archdiocese of Lagos All-Purpose Committee headed by Rt Hon Chev. Peter Nwanze, Cardinal Okogie will be feted as he marks three landmark anniversaries on June 16.
These include his 90th birthday, 60th priestly ordination anniversary and 55th Episcopal ordination anniversary.
The celebrations will kick off Tuesday at 10.am with a Holy Mass at the Holy Cross Cathedral Lagos with Bishops, priests, religious, lay faithful, government officials, captains of industries, traditional rulers, friends and well wishes expected to be in attendance. Then after the joyous occasion will move to “The Hall” events centre on Victoria Island where a grand reception has been planned.
“This is a well deserved tribute to an iconic leader of the Church; a leader whose life and ministry have left an indelible mark in the Catholic Church and in Nigeria as a nation,” said Hon. Peter Nwanze.
“Cardinal Okogie remains a symbol of integrity, courage and unwavering faith having spent decades championing justice, defending human dignity and providing leadership during some of the nation’s challenging periods.
“For generations of Catholics and Nigerians alike, Cardinal Okogie has stood as a moral compass and a prophetic voice, inspiring countless people through his pastoral zeal, commitment to truth and steadfast service to the common good.”
