Olaide Adegoke John Paul and her twin sons were rescued by the Nigeria Police Saturday from a location in Ibadan, Oyo State unharmed.
But reactions from Nigerians online on the swift response of the police to rescue the victims, while 46 students and teachers kidnapped by terror gangs 19 days ago remain in captivity dominated discussions.
And President Bola Tinubu’s adviser on social media, Dada Olusegun picked a quarrel with those who are angered by the government’s rapid response to the kidnap of Mrs. John Paul a junior sister to former minister of power Adebayo Adelabu and her two boys.
According to the police, the rescue of the trio abducted on June 3 was successful on Saturday at about 7.30pm, and was done through intelligence gathering and monitoring of the movement of the criminals behind the act.The police said two suspects were gunned down and others fled with bullet wounds in the operation.
Some reactions on X social media:
@I_am_Dan44: “So they were able to rescue them in less than a week but nothing about the students and their teachers, this country isn’t fair at all to the common man.”
@luxevienn1: “The difference between being kidnapped by kidnappers and being kidnapped by bandits, the difference is clear sha. Poor Nigerians na you and your god o. There was no fear of casualties while moving in to rescue this one’s abi. Dey play.”
@Abraham83689045: “Una fit rescue this ones bcuz their papa is one of the thieves in Nigeria dat we call politicians and aspirant for governorship in Oyo State but those kids that their parents pay you tax are still in the bush and the principal. F… Tinubu, F… NPF, F… Seyi Makinde and F… Nigeria Army.”
But Mr. Dada Olusegun outraged reading the negative comments responded: “If you find yourself unhappy about the rescue of a woman and her children and jump on every conspiracy to try and downplay the efforts of law enforcement, just know you’re already a terrorist.
“You may not be carrying weapons yet, but your mindset and theirs are essentially the same.
“Never in our time in opposition did we celebrate gleefully and shamelessly the misfortunes of those who don’t agree with us.
“You lots are soulless, and your justification today for losing your humanity is that ‘some people may have done it 12 years ago.”
