President Bola Tinubu came under severe criticism for his failure to stem the spate of kidnappings and terror attacks in the country against the background of recent kidnapping of 46 Oyo State students and teachers.
But his minister of works, David Umahi argued that the insecurity problem did not start with his boss and therefore Nigerians should stop lambasting the President.
“When people call themselves extreme politicians, you know, insult the President and talk about insecurity as if insecurity just started with the administration,” Umahi said.
He stated that the issue of insecurity usually rears its ugly head during election season.
“Why is it that any time you try to have an election, there is heightened insecurity?
“We will win our election by God’s special grace. The boat is already on sails on the high sea. We are experiencing some things, but the President has been able to stabilise the boats in so many directions.”
But General Overseer of the Omega Fire Ministries Worldwide Apostle Johnson Suleman called on Tinubu to resign if he cannot save the nation from bandits and terror gangs.
“The sponsors of terrorism are our real problem. Go after them. If the President cannot deal with them, he should resign, let somebody else do it.
“The people you are facing now are the children of those terrorists that were six years old when they brought them in 2014, who have now grown to be 21 or 19 years. That’s why you see them – small, small boys carrying AK 47. Go after the sponsors who empower them.
“I have travelled to several countries and I can boldly tell you that the Nigerian Army, the police and the DSS are among the best in the world,” he said.
