Suspected Boko Haram fighters early Friday raided a Nigeria army base and snuff life out eight soldiers and injuring many others.
According to military sources the insurgent elements took advantage of a down pour and poor visibility to launch the attack on the Nigeria army 162 Battalion base situated along the Mandara–Buratai Road.
Troops though caught pants down fought back in hours long battle to ward off the attack.
“162 Battalion Mandara Buratai Road, eight soldiers were killed in action. They attacked us at 4 a.m. today (Friday) when it was raining,” the military source revealed.
According to additional security sources, the insurgent fighters overran sections of the military outpost, executing a brutal assault on the personnel before a counter-offensive could be fully organized.
“They killed eight soldiers and beheaded them. Several others were injured during the attack,” an insider revealed.
Reinforcement units have since been dispatched to the axis to secure the facility, repel any lingering insurgent presence, and assist in recovering the bodies of the fallen soldiers.
A comprehensive assessment is currently underway to ascertain the full extent of the casualties and material damage suffered during the breach.
