Top striker Paul Onuachu has hinted that the Super Eagles failure to qualify for the 2026 World Cup continues to haunt him.
Onuachu who was speaking before the Super Eagles took on Poland Wednesday stated that despite parading some of the best players in African the national team failed to pick one of the ten tickets to represent the continent at the world soccer fiesta to be hosted by the USA, Canada and Mexico.
“Sad we’re not going to the World Cup,” Onuachu said.
“Because we have good players, great players, world-class players, but unfortunately we are not going to the World Cup, but it’s football.”
At 31, Onuachu and his present teammates would have to wait another four years and based on the rich base of talents that keep springing up, there is no guarantee Onuachu would be in the next team. 2026 might as well be a last chance for him and other senior Super Eagles players to play in the World Cup.
Onuachu had a good 2026 season with his Turkish club Trabzonspor, who finished behind Victor Osimhen’s Galatasaray and Fenerbahce in the league.
