A 30-year-old man, identified as Pere Odese, has been lynched and killed by a mob for allegedly terminating the life his father, during an argument over food.
According to reports the incident occurred in Ikhehe Community Ewato in Esan South-east Local Government area of Edo State on Tuesday.
Friday Odese who is a farmer was attacked by his son Pere Odese when he returned from a trip to find out that there was no food in the house.
Pere failed to buy explanations from his father that he couldn’t go to the farm because of the fear of being attacked by armed men hiding in the bush around the area. The situation escalated to a heated argument and according to sources Pere picked up a machete and pounced on his father killing him.
A resident of the area said a neighbour who attempted to rescue the deceased sustained machete wounds during the incident and is currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital.
The source added that youths and residents later apprehended the suspect while he was trying to escape and beat him to death, bringing the death toll to two.
When contacted, the spokesperson of the Edo State Police Command, Eno Ikoedem, confirmed that the command was aware of the incident but said the matter had yet to be formally reported to the police.
