African migrants living in Cambodia have 48 hours to leave the Asian country, otherwise they would be risking a two-year jail sentence and also pay $8,000 fine.
According to a quit notice signed by Director General Department of Immigration, Lt. General Som Sopheak, authorising the police to arrest any foreign national as from June 1, 2026, Africans found in the country whether in hideouts or at the airport after the deadline will be made to face the full wrath of the law.
The letter specifically mentioned Ghanaians, Cameroonians, Kenyans, Ugandans and other Africans who are in the country in illegally.
“The General Department of Immigration wishes to inform all African nationals including citizens of Ghana, Kenya, Cameroon, Uganda and others that the waiver granted to you will officially end on 31st of May 2026. All foreign nationals whose fines have been cleared must leave Cambodia on or before May 31…Any foreign national who enters, remains or is found in Cambodia from June 1 will be arrested at the airport or at any location and shall; serve a jail term of two years; and pay a penalty of $8,000 before being allowed to leave Cambodia,” the notice read.
The Royal Government of Cambodia noted that it would not tolerate breaches of immigration law, urging all affected individuals to comply fully.
