Nigeria and Jamaica will have another dance at the 2026 Unity Cup following their respective wins against Zimbabwe and India.
The Super Eagles in 2025 beat the Reggae Boyz 5-4 on penalty shootout. And on Saturday at The Valley Charlton London, coach Eric Chelle will have the opportunity to test the Super Eagles freshers he invited to beef up his team ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Nigeria and Jamaica missed the 2026 World Cup, with both teams being victims to a stubborn Congo DR Leopards at the continental and intercontinental play offs. Jamaica are determined to beat the Super Eagles not only to avenge last year’s loss, but also to gain confidence in international football.
Based on the team coach Eric Chelle has brought to the mini-tournament, Jamaica is seen as favourites to win after dominating India and clinically finishing them off.
The Reggae Boyz have been the revelation of the tournament, executing a game plan characterized by suffocating midfield pressure and lightning-fast transitions. Under rigorous coaching, they have evolved from a team relying on individual brilliance into a cohesive, tactically disciplined unit.
But the Super Eagles newcomers will want to impress and stake a claim to a regular call up in future competitive games. They are expected to withstand the pressure from the Jamaica and create an upset.
Super Eagles newbies...ready to impress again.
