Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta has praised Bournemouth for practically handing the Gunners the 2025/26 Premier League title after they made Manchester City to drop crucial points on Tuesday night.
Bournemouth in April beat Arsenal 2-1, throwing a spanner in the Gunners chances of winning their first title in 22 years. But Bournemouth proved to be the king makers when they almost beat City, but for Erling Haaland’s late equalising goal.
As Areteta leads Arsenal into their last win or lose game of the season against Crystal Palace where they would be crowned, he said it was a fantastic feeling putting his hands on the trophy after many years of trying.
“You don’t realise it probably. It is one of the best feelings I have ever had,” said the Gunners coach who also won the title as player with Arsenal under coach Arsene Wenger.
“I was supposed to be with the players, but 20 minutes before the game I had to leave. I couldn’t bring the energy.
“I went home, started to build some fire, heard some noises in the living room and the magic happened.”
Arteta revealed that he has spoken to Bournemouth boss and friend Andoni Iraola.
“I called him yesterday to congratulate him on the incredible job with Bournemouth.
“To say you nearly took it away from us and then you gave it to us.”
