A driver suspected to be driving under the influences of unknown substance has caused the death of 11 person including himself in lone auto crash along the Lagos Abeokuta expressway.
According to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), spokesperson Afolabi Odunsi the incident occurred on Sunday at the Eruku bridge when the driver apparently speeding with the overloaded Toyota Sienna vehicle with registration number GGE722KJ lost control, rammed into the pavement and fell off the bridge.
The 11 passengers including 10 male and one female died on the spot due to the impact. Mr Odunsi said it took rescuers a lot of time to extricate the bodies of the deceased from the wreckage of the vehicle.
He said that the dead bodies had been moved to the Ogun State Specialist Hospital Morgue in Ifo.
The Sector Commander, Corps Commander Oludare Ogunjobi advised travelers on the Abeokuta-Lagos route to exercise extreme caution, especially when driving at night.
He however expressed his heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased.
