Carter outpoints Portable, wins trip to Germany courtesy of Victor Boniface… tear gas scare at venue

Comedian Carter Efe Friday night proved too strong for loquacious singer Habeeb Okikiola Badmus a.k.a Portable in their celebrity boxing contest in Lagos.
Before both entertainers climbed on the ring, there was smell of tear gas at the Balmoral Hall of the Federal Palace Hotel venue of the contest, while one of the fights on the cards was on. The referee had to stop the fight for the air to clear up. The source of the toxic air was unknown.
But once the scare was over spectators watched Carter and Portable slug it out and it was quite clear, it was a mismatched encounter, because Carter with a longer reach punished Portable with pounces to the head.
Carter was also more composed and calculative than Portable who loves to rush at his opponents. It was a surprise he didn’t suffer a knock down in the three-round encounter. At the end of the bout Portable was clearly in distress.
All three judges scored 30-27 in favour of Carter who is likely to have a free holiday apart from the N50m prize money at stake. Striker Victor Boniface had promise that should he beat Portable, Carter will get a free ticket to Germany.
Meanwhile Portable claimed that he was robbed.
He said, “I was robbed. I threw him many punches, why didn’t you people count them? Any blow that I threw to him ought to count even if it meets him on the shoulder or hand. And to the organisers, I want my stream money amounting to about N200 million. Just give me my money before I cause trouble.
“They did ojoro for me. All of you are mad. Carter Efe was just holding my neck. I was punching him too but you people are not talking about that. They knew he is tall and has long hands but still put him in a boxing match with me.”
