Public execution...police kill suspect in broad day light.

Former Anambra State governor and 2027 presidential aspirant Peter Obi said Monday’s extrajudicial killing of a youth in Effurun, Delta state, by a police officer was traumatising.
28-year-old Mene Ogidi was alleged to have collected a waybill bearing a pistol; despite pleading with the officer identified as ASP Nuhu Usman to spare his life and promised to lead the police to the owner of the parcel in Sapele, he was shot point blank in the head in full view of the public.
“The extrajudicial killing of a young Nigerian in Effurun, Delta State, by a police officer… is not only barbaric but also a grave violation of the rule of law,” Obi said.
He said no individual should be deprived of life without due process and a fair determination of guilt, adding that such incidents worsen public anxiety and erode public confidence in security institutions.
“Nigerians are already traumatised by recurring reports of brutal killings… and incidents of this nature… only worsen that psychological burden and erode public confidence in safety and security,” he said.
“In light of this, while the law must take its full course, I commend the prompt response of the police authorities so far and express confidence that they will pursue this matter to its logical conclusion,” he said.
Meanwhile Delta State Police Command disclosed that the killer cop will face murder charges.
According to the police, the incident occurred on April 26, 2026, when operatives attached to Area Command Effurun acted on intelligence that the deceased had been apprehended while allegedly attempting to waybill a parcel containing “a Beretta pistol with four rounds of ammunition.”
The Command further stated that “the police officer leading the team, ASP Nuhu Usman, in clear violation of Force Order 237 and the Standard Operating Procedure of the Nigeria Police Force, discharged his firearm, leading to the death of the suspect”.
