Five suspects arrested by the Department of State Services (DSS) over their alleged involvement in the Palm Sunday killings in Jos north, have been charged with a criminal conspiracy to commit murder and acts of terrorism by the Plateau State government.
Plateau State prosecutors listed the suspects as Isa Umar Ibrahim, Auwalu Abubakar, also known as Auwalu Dogo, Musa Abubakar Ibrahim, also known as Yaroro, Ado Ibrahim, and Adamu Isa Alhassan who were arrested in April.
They were alleged to have carried out the Palm Sunday attack in March 2026, in Angwa Rukuba, Jos North Local Government Area, killing over 30 persons.
Meanwhile, some protesting women in the Gashish community, Barkin Ladi Local Government Area destroyed a security checkpoint mounted by Operation Enduring Peace near Kassa in Plateau State.
The women claimed that soldiers at the checkpoint rather than maintain peace and security have looked the other way while terror gangs roamed free to commit murder.
The protest followed Sunday night’s assaults in the Hurum-Gashish community, where gunmen killed four people and injured five others, as well as a separate attack on the Bachi community that left two dead and several injured.
“We are tired of burying our children and husbands. The soldiers are here, yet we are still dying. If they cannot protect us, they should leave,” said Mercy Dachung one of the protesting women.
Another protester Nancy Gyang, submitted that security personnel were never around when needed to stop attacks by terror gangs: “We removed the checkpoint because it has not stopped the killings.”
A community leader, Chundung Bot, said residents had lost confidence in the security presence, calling on the government and relevant authorities to take urgent steps to restore peace.
