With three months left in the count down to the 2026 Commonwealth Games, the National Sports Commission has wrapped up logistics for a successful outing for Team Nigeria.
The CWG is billed for Glasgow, Scotland, from July 23 to August 2, and in what seems to be a departure from normal fire brigade preparations, the NSC has tidy up arrangements.
According to NSC Elite Athletes Development and Podium Board chairperson and Nigeria’s chef de mission to the Games Yusuf Alli, no stone will be left unturned to see that Nigeria excels in Glasgow.
“All our accommodations in Glasgow, our training camp, our uniforms have all been sorted out,” said Mr. Alli
“Training grants for athletes and their allowances during the Games all have also been worked out.
“We don’t want to wait till the last minute before making preparations.
“This is a departure from previous years and we must give kudos to the NSC chairman Shehu Dikko and the director general Hon. Bukola Olapade for looking Ahead.”
Before now Nigeria’s build up to international sports competitions have been chaotic and often led to poor performance, a case in recent times was the Paris 2024 Olympics where a Nigerian cyclist had to borrow equipment before she could compete.
