Big wigs of the African Democratic Congress, a party allegedly plunged into crisis by the ruling party All Progressives Congress, Wednesday, marched to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) headquarters in protest.
Those on the frontline include former Nigeria’s Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Anambra State governor Peter Obi, former Rivers State governor, Rotimi Amaechi; former Kano State governor Rabiu Kwankwaso; former Senate president David Mark; former Osun State governor, Rauf Aregbesola, and former Sokoto governor, Aminu Tambuwal.
The march took them and several hundreds of ADC supporters of through some major streets in Abuja before terminating at the INEC’s headquarters. They accused the INEC of colluding with the APC to prevent opposition parties from participating in the 2027 elections.
“Our patriotic stance is aimed at safeguarding our democracy and preventing the enthronement of a dictatorship,” Atiku posted on his X social media platform.
Also, Obi called on Nigerians to vehemently reject the agenda of the INEC and the APC to deny them of voting for a president pf their choice.
“We say NO to a one-party system, and for that, today we’re calling out Nigerians who believe in the unity, peace, and security of our country to join us as we defend democracy in our land,” Obi shared on his X platform.
The INEC recently delisted the leadership of the ADC citing a Court of Appeal ruling on a leadership tussle between ADC national chairman David Mark and Nafiu Bala Gombe who claimed to be the authentic chairman after the resignation of Ralph Nwosu to make way for alliance led by David Mark.
Meanwhile, a new faction of the party has emerged with Dumebi Kachikwu claiming leadership. He reportedly has the backing of all the ADC state chairmen. A nine member caretaker committee was set up to manage the affairs of the party pending resolution of all legal tussles, after a meeting of the faction yesterday in Abuja.
