Victor Boniface shocked Werder Bremen coaching staff by returning from injury with extra kilos and according to former striker Martin Harni, that was unprofessional.
Boniface who is on loan at Werder Bremen from Bayer Leverkusen after failing to seal a deal with AC Milan in Italy last summer had endure poor form before suffering a knee injury that keep him out for three months.
He resumed training last week and he was in bad shape with nearly protruding belly. Suggesting he’s been on binge while recovering.
“When I join team training, I have to be as fit as possible, and he is confused fit with overweight,” Harnik said on his podcast, as quoted by 20min.
“He’s carrying a considerable amount of weight. He’s coming back from this injury in a terrible state – that is unprofessional.”
Werder Bremen coach Daniel Thioune also complained about Boniface’s physical condition, he said the player must knock himself into shape if he wishes to make the squad soon
“It’s obvious that he is obese. He knows it, and so do we. I wish he were in better shape. He needs to prove his worth if he wants to make the squad.”
