Super Eagles top striker Victor Osimhen has listed three players who influenced his football career even as he gives himself credit for his unrestrained ambition to succeed in life.
Osimhen who is back in Nigeria to recover from a fractured arm, which he suffered during Wednesday night’s Champions League match between his club Galatasaray and Liverpool at Anfield, said Odion Ighalo, John Obi Mikel and Didier Drogba were his football heroes.
“I attribute all my success to God. And there are some people who are human beings who put me on the right path.
“In terms of football, everybody knows I draw my inspiration from Didier Drogba. And also, the likes of Odion Ighalo,” Osimhen said while speaking during a Twitch livestream with comedian Carter Efe.
He said Mikel left him with a lasting impression when he was first invited to the Super Eagles in 2017.
“I saw him after we ate. I saw him and told him, ‘Senior man, I dey come to your room.’ He say, make I follow am immediately,” Osimhen said.
“He asked me to come to his room and he sent me money. I can’t say how much he gave me but he gave me pounds.”
The Galatasaray top striker revealed that all his life he been hustling and has a very strong determination to get out of poverty.
“The way I hustled hard back in the trenches, even if I didn’t make it in football, I would still have made money like crazy. I was very determined, hardworking and passionate. I did a lot of menial jobs and never turned down any legit opportunity of making money,” he explained.
