Eberechi Eze opened scoring for Arsenal with a brilliant shot from outside the box in their 2-0 win over Bayer Leverkusen in Tuesday night’s Champions League tie at the Emirates Stadium in London.
Eze controlled the ball at the edge of the area before firing beyond the reach of Bayer Leverkusen’s Janis Blawich. Declan Rice scored the second goal to shoot Arsenal into the quarter-final of Champions League on a 3-1 aggregate win.
Speaking on Eze’s performance, Rice said the attacking midfielder is a hard hitter of the ball when he is in the right position.
“He’s got one of the best shots I’ve seen, left foot and right foot,” Rice told TNT Sports .
“We need to keep getting him in those areas because, honestly, he’s frightening.
“Around the edge of the box, left foot and right foot, there are not many players I’ve seen hit the ball better than him.
“We need to keep giving him the ball around the edge because he can make things happen.”
It was Eze’s first Champions League goal and according to him, he dreamt the strike into life.
“I don’t know if I could dream of scoring a goal like that. It was a good goal, I just saw the opportunity to shoot and thank you to God that’s worked today, “Eze said.
“It was a special goal for sure, I’m going to remember it for a long time. Hopefully it’s the first of many in the Champions League for me. I’m going to be watching this one for a long time.
