The police in Niger State have detained a 59-year-old blind man identified as Julius Nyikwa for allegedly raping his wife’s 10-year-old niece.
According to the police the incident occurred February 16 in the Keteren-Gwari area of Minna the Niger State capital. The young girl was lured by Nyikwa into his room in their extended family compound where he sexually assaulted her.
It was gathered that the girl’s grandmother raised an alarm when noticed that Nyiwa was assaulting her. Neighbours alerted the police and Nyikwa was arrested.
According to Niger State police spokesperson SP Wasiu Abiodun the suspect had at one other time taken advantage of the young girl but this time around he ran out of luck.
“During the last encounter, the victim was seen entering the suspect’s room, and the grandmother raised an alarm, which attracted neighbours following which the suspect was arrested,” he said.
He added that the case is under investigation and suspect would charge to court.
