Nigerian Army soldiers stand at a base in Baga on August 2, 2019. - Intense fighting between a regional force and the Islamic State group in West Africa (ISWAP) has resulted in dozens of deaths, including at least 25 soldiers and more than 40 jihadists, in northeastern Nigeria. ISWAP broke away from Boko Haram in 2016 in part due to its rejection of indiscriminate attacks on civilians. Last year the group witnessed a reported takeover by more hardline fighters who sidelined its leader and executed his deputy. National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu has been accused of blocking US soldiers from going into Christian communities in Plateau State.
Fire spitting cleric Reverend Ezekiel Dachomo, made the accusations saying that the US soldiers deployed to protect communities have been diverted to the Northwest, while killings of Christians continue in Plateau State.
Dachomo, who was speaking in a video message released on Friday, claimed that it was his appeal for help that made President Donald Trump deploy the troops to Nigeria to prevent further killings in Plateau State.
“When I invited Trump to Nigeria to come and help us.
“The National Security Adviser redirected the attention of the U.S. to Sokoto State and the Muslim-dominated areas in the north,” Dachomo claimed in the video.
“Now the Muslims are enjoying the coming of Trump and the American soldiers. They are now saying Trump is in Nigeria to protect the Muslims.”
The cleric further alleged that killings were still occurring across several parts of northern Nigeria despite the presence of security forces.
“Christians are being killed like chickens. There are killings ongoing in Christian-dominated areas in Borno, Kwara, Kaduna, Benue, and Plateau.”
Dachomo warned that communities in the Middle Belt could eventually resort to defending themselves if the attacks continue without adequate protection.
“That is their roadmap to wipe out Christians in Nigeria, to make sure that nobody stands for us. It has come to a time when we must stand up and defend ourselves.”
