Former Super Eagles midfielder Garba Lawal has warned young up and coming Nigerian players to concentrate on their Europe football careers rather than run after “white women.”
Lawal who was speaking against the background of a recent sentencing of Daniel Daga to six months imprisonment by a Norwegian court for an alleged sexual assault, said that players should be wise enough to keep their distance from women in Europe.
“Me, I have never been attracted to those white women because I know if you are not careful enough, you end up in problems.
” As a young player, you need to be very careful. Women, if it’s because of women, why do you travel to Europe? You stay in Nigeria; we have beautiful women here,” Lawal told Complete Sports in an interview.
He said the case can potentially damage the career of the 19-year-old midfielder who joined FC Molde in 2025.
“Now, if you come out of it for example, which club in Europe wants to sign him? The same thing back home here in Nigeria; It’s so unfortunate.”
Daga through his legal representative claimed it was a consensual engagement and has vowed appeal the sentence.
Some Nigerian players who have been snared by allegations of sexual assault in the past include Etim Esim, Godwin Opara and in recent times Isaac Success who was fortunate to untangle himself.
