Boko Haram fighters Monday launched another attack on Nigeria army troops camp killing the commanding officer Lieutenant Colonel Umar Farouq and several others.
The attacked occurred at 12.30am Monday in Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno State, when Boko Haram stormed the army camp and opened fire. The soldiers on ground resisted and there was a prolong firefight but were forced to withdraw. Boko Haram fighters were reported to have set ablaze vehicles and carted away ammunitions.
“They (terrorists) stormed the town from multiple directions and launched an attack on the military camp,” said a military source.
“I cannot say much about the casualties but it’s very sad that we also lost the CO (commanding officer) here,”
The lawmaker representing Kukawa LGA in the Borno State House of Assembly, Karta Maina Ma’aji Lawan, confirmed the attack saying the military camp was overrun
The latest attack comes about a week after suspected Boko Haram and ISWAP fighters attempted to attack military positions in Ngoshe, Gwoza LGA of Borno state.
The Nigerian Air Force said over 50 suspected terrorists were killed in air strikes in the state.
