Nigeria’s newest sprint sensation Blessing Ogundiran said she is looking forward to a good outdoor season after storming to 7.31 seconds run in the women’s 60m to clinch first place at the NAIA Indoor Track & Field Championships.
Ogundiran who is a freshman at the Warner University Florida USA has improved on her running since moving to the US last year. And there was no other way to announce her arrival at the big stage by winning her first title. She had earlier posted 7.20seonds personal best at the Sun Confluence Championships to equal the longstanding NAIA record of 7.20s set in 2010 by Kimberly Smith.
“I’m so so happy and excited what I have achieve indoors,” said Ogundiran.
“And I am going to work hard and pray that my outdoor season will be an improvement on this.”
Ogundiran is one athlete who had consistently showed her present in Nigerian women sprints, winning the national championships women’s 100m twice and helping the Nigerian women 4x100m gold at the 2023 African Games in Accra, Ghana. Moving to the US seem to have unlocked her true potentials. By winning a national title as freshman, she more than prove that there is more to come and she would also soon be joining the sub 11 women club.
