After scoring to lift Galatasaray over Besiktas in a Turkish League game Saturday, striker Victor Osimhen warned his teammates to prepare for the Liverpool fury expected in Tuesday’s Champions League clash at the Rams Stadium in Istanbul.
In their earlier meeting in September 2025 Osimhen’s penalty kick condemned Liverpool to defeat and the six-time Champions League winners are hoping for a good result in the first leg of the round of 16 tie. Osimhen said Galatasaray need to prepare for a fight.
“The win against Besiktas is a boost to our morale. We need to keep our feet on the ground. Liverpool are a very big team,” Osimhen was quoted by Habersarikirmizi.
“We will be playing at home. If we are careful, we can do well, even if it’s not easy. All matches in the Champions League are tough. We will fight to do well.”
Osimhen’s header proved vital for Galatasaray as they now top the Turkish Super Lig table with 61 points from 25 games. It is Osimhen’s 11th goal of the season from 18 league games.
Meanwhile Galatasaray president Dursn Ozbek has dismissed talks of Osimhen joining another club in the summer, despite having no release clause in his contract.
“There is no release clause in Osimhen’s contract,” Dursun Ozbek told Fanatik.
“He’s a hugely successful player who will serve Galatasaray for many years.”
“Maybe on the day we bought him, there was talk of the price being high, but today among football fans, the prevailing idea is that the price we paid for him was cheap and his actual value is much higher.”
